Objective: To determine psychosocial risk factors for dropping out of treatment for tuberculosis in patients attending the Health Area No. 1, Pumapungo. Cuenca 2012.
Method and Materials: A retrospective analytical study of quantitative intervention, in patients older than 15 years who came to receive treatment for tuberculosis, in the period 2012.
Universe: are patients diagnosed with tuberculosis in the health area No. 1, which correspond to 18 people, of which 14 agreed to be part of the investigation.
The study used document analysis, home visits and survey. The required information was obtained according to the DOTS program records, medical records and home visits.
The information processing was performed using Microsoft Office Word and Excel 2010, the same who provided statistical elements for analysis. The data were presented in tables.
Results: Patients with tuberculosis maintain some stability and adherence to treatment however are present psychosocial risk factors that can cause mental instability; one of them is coping with the disease in 26% of patients.
