In recent years, cities have become one of the sectors with the most impact on energy consumption and the environment due to the air conditioning of buildings with non-renewable energy sources. Currently, according to ARCERNNR, our country is mainly supplied with energy from hydroelectric plants (62.55%), which also affects the natural environment. It is pertinent to the use of other resources, which have less environmental impact and are renewable. This research proposes to determine the feasibility of implementing photovoltaic solar energy (PV) in a residential neighborhood of the city of Cuenca as an alternative to produce energy on-site. Solar energy would allow self-sufficiency and less codependency on non-renewable energy. To achieve this goal, the characteristics of the buildings in the selected area are examined, such as their orientation, location, climatic data of the environment, roof geometry and actual energy consumption. Additionally, the self-sufficiency capacity is simulated by implementing PV energy to establish the percentage that is necessary to create an energy-neutral neighborhood. The result was that the energy demand can be covered by 94.88%, with an installation of 427 solar panels with a power of 337 Watts, distributed in 29 buildings and with a geometric occupation of roofs of 11.95%
