Resumen
Sexual assertiveness is part of human sexuality, which is an integral dimension of the human being that is associated with a series of cultural, social, political, and personal factors. Sexual assertiveness is made up of five dimensions that interrelate and complement each other: sexual initiation, desire, history of sexual life, rejection, and negotiation. All of them allow the individual a healthy development in their sexuality. This topic has been widely addressed; however, in the gay population, studies have been limited; it is relevant to cover this field of knowledge to strengthen subsequent models of intervention and sexual education. The methodology used for the development of this research was qualitative, the design was based on theory, which allowed to build knowledge from the expressions of the participants, the data collection technique was the semi-structured interview, and the participants were ten emerging adults from the gay community. Data analysis was performed using the Atlas.Ti computer tool, which facilitated the establishment of codes, appointments, and relationships. The analysis of the dimensions of sexual assertiveness and the factors involved in the development of the same was obtained, with self-esteem and emotional self-regulation being relevant. From the present study, it is concluded that factors such as gender, academic degree, and age are not determining factors for the development of sexual assertiveness. Also, the previously established dimensions are interrelated with each other and associated with intrapersonal factors such as freedom, the ability to express their wishes, self-knowledge, and self-esteem; and to interpersonal factors, such as the capacity for dialogue, the social context of learning.
