Resumen
Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in geriatric patients. Identifying on time all risk factors associated with these diseases can encourage the implementation of strategies to prevent them and/or treat them before or during this stage of life.
The main objective of the present study was to determine the lipid profile and its relationship with other risk factors in patients older than 65 years in the Health Area No. 2 – Miraflores. Subcenter of Health Uncovía of the city of Cuenca.
It was developed a descriptive observational study of cross section in a sample of 100 geriatric patients. They were evaluated in addition to the glycemia and the lipidograma; their systolic and diastolic blood pressures, their body mass index, the precedents of mellitus diabetes, arterial hypertension and excess weight / obesity, as well as the toxic habits and unhealthy lifestyles. All the data were processed in SPSS v.17.0 and EPIDAT 3.0.
The most frequent risk factors proved to be the excess of body weight (80%), unhealthy diets (75%), sedentary lifestyle (70%), hypertension (64%) and mellitus diabetes (34%). To a lesser proportion the toxic habits were found. Between dyslipidemias, hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia were the most common (>40%) and to a lesser percentage was hypocholesterolemia HDL. The dyslipidemia were associated with the history of high blood pressure, overweight, toxic habits, sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet. There was no relation with mellitus diabetes. The atherogenic index was correlated best with the number of risk factors that each variable lipidograms separately.
