Resumen
Background: Cyst is a closed pouch with its own membrane that develops abnormally in a cavity or structure of the body, resulting from an error in embryonic development during pregnancy, although they also appear spontaneously. (1)
Durán Álvarez mentions that cysts develop more frequently in the kidneys (2). Renal cysts are mostly diagnosed as findings in imaging studies (ultrasound and tomography) since they are usually asymptomatic. The Bosniak classification is used to evaluate renal cysts and to relate their possibility of malignancy according to the presence or absence of imaging signs in tomography and ultrasound. (3)
Objective: To determine the prevalence of renal cysts diagnosed by simple and contrasted UROTAC in the Imaging Department of the "Clinica Latino" in the city of Cuenca in the period February 2018 - July 2020.
Methodology: A descriptive-retrospective study was conducted, collecting information from medical records and radiological reports of patients who attended the Imaging department of the "Clinica Latino" for simple and contrasted UROTAC examinations, in the period July 2018 - February 2020. The data were analyzed and tabulated in the SPSS program.
Results: The study showed that the prevalence of renal cysts detected by simple and contrasted UROTAC in patients attending the Imaging department of the "Clinica Latino" in the period July 2018 - February 2020 was 52.9%, with 274 patients; predominantly in patients of male sex and in ages above 61 years (31.8%).
