Resumen
A descriptive study was conducted, purposeful, with intervention in 275 pregnants. To collect information, we used a survey on the basis of variables such as age, occupation, marital status, residence, gestation period, number of feats and family income. We determined serum iron, transferrin, and percentage of saturation of transferrin, ferritin (patients with iron inferior at 35 µg/dl), hemoglobin and hematocrit.
The average serum iron is 79.9 ±1.5 µg/dl, median 74.5 , mode 84.2 , standard deviation 26.04; the average transferrin is 342,5 ± 6.9 µg/dl, medium 350, mode 320.1 , standard deviation 76.9; The average percentage of transferrin saturation is 21.86 ± 0.44 %, median 21.4 , mode 18.6, Standard deviation 9.04; the average hemoglobin is 12.55 ± 0.25 gr/dl, median 12.8 , mode 13, standard deviation 1.3; the mean hematocrit is of 37,44 ± 0.76 %, median 38, mode 38, standard deviation 3.1; the average ferritin is 109.08 ± 2.22 ng/ml, median 17.6 , mode 4.6 , standard deviation 207.1.
We found low levels of serum iron in 6.2 %, the majority of patients are into 20 and 24 years of age and in the last months of gestation, normal values in 92% and slightly high in 2 %. Within the normal range the values of hematocrit are 78.2 %, hemoglobin in 87.3 %, ferritin in 52,9 %, transferrin in 59.6 %, and the percentage of saturation of transferrin in 91.3 %
For a safe fiability of the results we aplicated a control of quality intra and inter-laboratory.
