Resumen
Distributed generation, both isolated and interconnected to the grid, is a practice that comes from the beginnings of electrical energy, however, today, has regained presence due to the benefits, mainly environmental, it entails. The use of renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar radiation, is common in this type of systems, but the variable nature of these resources makes it necessary to complement this distributed generation (DG) with energy storage systems (ESS). The objective of this work is to analyse the different energy storage systems, particularly electrical energy, that currently exist. The particular system under study is the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). In the study, the electrical modeling of the VRFB is carried out and a subsequent validation of the variables that were considered pertinent. In addition, a case study is presented: the operation of the VRFB CellCube® FB 20 kW/100 kWh in the Microgrid of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca, Balzay Campus, under an operating automation algorithm.
