Background: Annually approximately two million people worldwide suffer from occupationally related illnesses according to the International Labor Organization (ILO) (1). In Ecuador, in 2011 a total of 9,338 work accidents were reported. In 2012, the reported cases rose to 13,657. The accident rate almost doubled. It increased from 381,2 in 2010 to 775,0 in 2015; similarly, for cases of diseases from 6,0 in 2010 to 28,4 in 2015. (2)
The most frequent reason for accidental loss of work is pain in the lower lumbar spinal region. In addition to this ailment we have cervicalgias and dorsalgias, and pathologies like tendinitis of D Quervain, bursitis at shoulder level, knee injuries, etc. (3, 4). Given the severity and frequency of these pathologies of work origin, we want to know in the Tugalt Company, the main occupational risks, triggered by work activities.
General objectives: Describe the ergonomic risks in the production area of the Tugalt Company, using the OWAS method. Cuenca, 2018.
Methodology: A descriptive and prospective observational cross-sectional study will be carried out in the workers of the production area of the Tugalt Company. Through the OWAS method, the risk of postural loading will be identified and classified as low, moderate, high and critical. The central tendency and dispersion descriptors will be used, and the results will be described through the list of variables, analyzed with the SPSS 18 program and will be represented by tables and graphs with the Excel program.
Use of the Results: The results will be useful for the Tugalt Company, mainly for them to take the measures that they believe convenient and the University of Cuenca, as a contribution to the career of Physical Therapy for further studies
