Resumen
Today, the need to address cancer as a social problem is due to the strong
incidence and prevalence of the disease at the national level and the impacts that
this disease generates in the lives not only of those who suffer from it but also of the
family nucleus . In this sense, the present degree work aims to recognize the
socioeconomic situation and its influence on the coping with cancer disease in the
families of the “FUPEC” Foundation. For this, a mixed approach was used with a
sequential explanatory methodological design with qualitative preponderance. The
techniques used for data collection were carried out in the first instance by means of
a socioeconomic record and finally semi-structured interviews were carried out to
obtain a holistic view of the phenomenon. The results reveal that cancer generates a
change effect in the lives of families, making work precarious and making the family
economic situation more difficult. Likewise, the way in which access to treatments
and medicines is differentiated for each of the social strata, having better or worse
conditions to cope with cancer. These findings reveal that cancer is a catastrophic
disease that goes beyond the physical deterioration of the person, also incurring in
every aspect of life that without a strengthened social and health system, generates
violation of the rights of those who suffer from the disease
