BACKGROUND: Alterations of the lipid profile in adults hypertensive patients is a risk factor, causes a greater predisposition to suffer more serious coronary diseases, at any age.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of lipid profile alterations in adult hypertensive patients treated at the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, january - june 2018.
METHODOLOGY: The research is observational, descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional.
The universe consisted of adult hypertensive patients from the areas of general medicine and cardiology treated at the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, january - june 2018. For the sample, we selected only patients who compays the inclusion criteria. The data was obtained through the system AS400 of the institution, the analyze and tabulate were done in the programs of Microsoft Excel 2010, SPSS version 22. RESULTS: When analyzing 801 clinical records, only 383 had lipid profile exams in the determined period of time, 41% belong to the masculine gender and 59% to the feminine gender. The prevalence of lipid profile alterations was 45% cholesterol, 55% triglycerides, 37% LDL-cholesterol, 54% VLDL-cholesterol, female 52% and male 39% HDL-cholesterol. Relating blood pressure and lipid profile, we observed that exists relationship.
CONCLUSIONS: High blood pressure is a very common disease in our country. This study showed that there is a relationship between the lipid profile and blood pressure, therefore, it is necessary to monitor constantly and maintain an adequate control of it.
