Resumen
Hysterectomy, clinical and ultrasonographic diagnosis plays an important role when making a surgical decision; then the pathological anatomical diagnosis assess the efficiency of clinical diagnosis and initial ultrasound. This correlation between the diagnostic are of great importance because of the scope of evaluating an appropriate initial diagnosis of the patient.
Objective: To determine the correlation between clinical diagnosis and preoperative ultrasound resulting in pathology in patients undergoing hysterectomies between 2008-2013 HVCM of the City of Cuenca.
Methodology: This was a retrospective study conducted in the Department of Gynecology and Pathology of HVCM, all medical records of patients who were undergone hysterectomy during the period January 2008 to December 2013 were reviewed. The following variables were collected: clinical diagnosis, ultrasound diagnosis, pathological anatomical diagnosis; information was processed through a developed database and codified in SPSS.
Results: 526 cases of hysterectomy were identified, being more frequent in 2013 with 123 cases, hysterectomy was more frequent in patients over 44 years, primary education level, marital status married and from the urban area; the main clinical diagnosis was uterine fibroids with 51.9%; ultrasound 72.4% and pathology - the myoma with 48.2%. The correlations found were: clinical diagnosis - ultrasound diagnosis = 93.22%; clinical diagnosis - pathological diagnosis = 80.77%; ultrasound diagnosis – pathological diagnosis = 80.06% and correlation between the 3 types of diagnoses: 75.57%.
Conclusions: The correlation between clinical, ultrasonographic and histopathological diagnoses is high; which involves a low level of discordance generating confidence in carrying out a process of hysterectomy and subsequent measurement by pathology, playing a vital role in clinical diagnosis.
