Resumen
The prosthetic status is important to be studied because having an inadequate status causes the affectation of the stomatognathic system. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the status of removable total dentures in a sample of bimaxillary edentulous patients, attended at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca in the period 2012-2015. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study, which was performed in 70 patients who consulted and received treatment. An analysis was made of the following aspects: bilateral balanced occlusion, oclusal vertical dimension, tooth loss, fractures, wear and year of performance of the prosthesis, by means of a questionnaire and a clinical examination prepared for the study. Results: 97.1% of patients presented poor conditions in their prostheses, according to gender and prosthetic status, with 100% of poor status of male prostheses, according to age, patients with less than 45 years old with 100% of poor prosthetic status and according to the year of production with 100% of poor prosthetic status in the 3, 4 and 5 year prosthetic groups, the least affected being the 2 year group with 97%. Wear was the most frequent alteration, with 57.1%. Conclusions: The prosthetic status of the patients treated at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca between 2012-2015 was poor, the highest frequency were female patients, older than 45 years and with two years of having had their prostheses
