Trastornos psiquiátricos en pacientes con enfermedades neoplásicas hospitalizados en SOLCA – Cuenca 2017

Background: people with cancer are highly susceptible to emotional alterations that could trigger psychiatric disorders, but they are underdiagnosed and this could affect the management of cancer patients.
Objective: to determine the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in patients with neoplastic diseases hospitalized in SOLCA- Cuenca.
Material and methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted with 264 cancer patients hospitalized in SOLCA Cuenca who were given prior informed consent form for data collection and the MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview. A database was created in the SPSS program, the results were processed in the same and Epi Info version 7, using distributions of frequency, percentage, Odds Ratio, 95 % confidence interval (CI) and p value.
Results: the relevant characteristics of the investigated population were: 49.6 % between 41 and 64 years old, 59.1 % female, 57.6 % married and 40.5 % primary education. The most frequent psychiatric disorders were: depression 53.8 %, anxiety 33.3 %, distress 26.5 % and suicide risk 12.9 %, female sex showed a significant association with EDM and distress disorder, with OR: 2,157, IC 95 %: 1,309 - 3,554, p: 0.002, OR: 3.015, IC 95 %: 1.614 - 5.631, p: 0.0003, respectively
Conclusions: prevalent psychiatric disorders were most frequently found in women demonstrated a statistically significant association with EDM and distress disorder; they were also found mainly in children younger than 64 years, those who had a partner and who received monotherapy as treatment
