dc.description.abstractDuring the twentieth century, Cuenca was the scene of a process of film censorship throughthe Church with the support of the Catholic Action and the League of Decency, and the Censorship Board of Public Shows. From this approach, the present research focuses on analyzing the discourse, position and actions developed by each of these institutions between1933 and 1987 to confront the cinema considered "immoral". In virtue of this, the use of qualitative techniques such as the analysis of primary and secondary sources, as well as the collection of oral testimonies, evidence that both censors carried out different modes of cinematographic control under the slogan of ensuring morality and good customs. On the one hand, the film censorship applied by the Church from the first third of the twentieth century was reduced to sermons from the pulpit and the altar intended for parishioners. Although it had the intervention of Catholic Action and the League of Decency to infiltrate everyday spaces to combat "bad cinema". On the other hand, the film censorship carried out by the Censorship Board was more organized and systematized, since it was governed by a legal framework that allowed films to be classified according to two parameters: moral and artistic. However, the effectiveness of such practices is debatable, given the scarce compliance of the population, a situation that worsened with the arrival of technological devices such as television, VHS, and DVD, that facilitated access to cinema in homes
