Resumen
This thesis analyzes and assesses the formal values of Modern Architecture through renowned works which are projected by pioneers of architecture such as Mies Van del Rohe and Le Corbusier. Using these works we can reflect on the formal values that are the foundations of their architecture. In architecture, several approaches that determine the formality of a work can be used to study forms, so for analyzing the works studied by the Banderas’ brothers, a wide range of analysis elements were formulated in order to identify the formality of values projected in the works developed by the Banderas’ brothers. These Modern Architecture values included in this research study were:
Program as functional container
Relationship with the environment
Location for integrating internal and external spaces
Functional Sizing
Tour as a link with the space
Structure as formal legality
Constructive materiality
Constructive details as intensifiers of form.
By following these concepts, we could find a lot of definitive architectural elements for recognizing formal values in Modern Architecture, such values allowed the analysis of three works developed by the Banderas’ brothers. The goal was to research, reflect on, graphically document, and, ultimately, conclude if such institutional works like: Palacio Municipal de Quito (Quito City Hall), Alianza Francesa de Quito (Alliance Française in Quito)and Iglesia Alemana de San Miguel(San Miguel German Church) are governed by the values mentioned above.
In this way we obtained the analysis tools for placing value on architectural works considered as modern.
