The low academic performance is present in the various educational systems of Ecuadorian education processes, is problematic is multi-causal, however requires research to determine the most determinant causes. This investigative work is aimed at the study of the self-concept of students of basic General education presenting poor academic performance of the Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional Mensajeros de la Paz, of the canton Santa Isabel del Azuay province, in the academic year 2014-2015. Study methodology is quantitative, descriptive and exploratory, applied the AF5 test, to determine the relationship of self-concept in their different areas of study with the low academic performance of students.
