The intention of this study was to determine the prevalence of episiotomy and associated risk factors in primiparas patients Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, in Canton Cuenca, Azuay Province during 2014.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of episiotomy in primiparas patients and their relation to factors such as maternal age, maternal height, weight newborn head circumference of the newborn, since at the time there are no studies to establish whether there is decrease of this obstetric action after the implementation of the regulations of the Ministry of Public Health restrict episiotomy.
Methodology: A study of prevalence was performed in a universe that constituted parturients 3798, of which the sample component 580 primiparas who attended the obstetric center of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, data collection forms were used to gather the information; the data were analyzed using SPSS 21 statistical package and the results are presented in simple and double-entry tables.
Results: The prevalence found episiotomy was 35.5%. Age less than 19 years considered a risk factor for episiotomy had statistical significance; Likewise the Newborn Weight greater than 3000 grams and Newborn Head Circumference greater than 33 inches; however, no statistical significance was found between Maternal Height less than 145 cm and episiotomy.
