Background: The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, defines low back pain as a painful syndrome in the low back. This back pain may or may not be associated with a neurological root involvement. Lumbar pain is the most common cause of consultation with therapists.
General Objective: To determine the frequency of low back pain due to radiculopathy and disc herniation in patients of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. 2016.
Methodology: A descriptive study was developed. It was analyzed by using numbers and percentages. The study was performed with 251 patients saw in an outpatient clinic of Physiatrics of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, selected by means of a non-probabilistic consecutive sampling. For the analysis, the SPSS 20 program was used. Data were presented in tables and graphs.
Results: At the end of the study were found 60 who presented pain in the lower back, 23.3% in the 40- to 49-year-old, and in the 50-59 age group, being the majority of the female gender (76.6%). The relationship between overweight and low back pain was also found. The Laségue test and the Bragard maneuver were corroborated in the diagnosis of 12 cases of disc hernias, 24 cases of lumbar radiculopathy.
Conclusion: Lumbar pain is more prevalent in the female gender. In the ages between 40 to 59 years of age. The tests of root tension help the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation and radiculopathy
