This project provides a geotechnical evaluation of the subbase material co- ming from the Llatcon mine. This material is being used in road works as part of the structure of the asphalt pavement. The key parameter of the evaluation is the CBR of the material, which is based on pavement designs performed by the AASHTO method. The evaluations performed are the CBR, which is conducted in laboratory settings while the evaluation performed in the field is carried using the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer. It is intended to validate and prove the use of this material, even though they don’t adhere with Ecuadorian specifications, technically justifying their placement because the material is used by state insti- tutions such as the Government of Azuay and the Municipality of Cuenca to serve community with maintenance and road improvement. Based on the obtained re- sults may indicate that the material is suitable to perform its structural function according to AASHTO method, therefore can be considered as an alternative for the construction of flexible pavements.
