Resumen
In order to analyze and design tanks, a general description according to their classification and content is required; highlighting the underground tanks. Different building codes will be used through the present document for the design of such tanks, some of them are, “Ecuadorian Code for the Construction NEC-11”, “ACI 350-06 Code Requirements for Environmental Engineering Concrete Structures” and “ACI 318-018 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary”, besides a wide bibliography.
The aim of this bachelor thesis is the design of the structural concrete used in the walls, covers and foundations of two water tanks of different size but equal thickness according to the Sectioning Method, Portland Cement Association (PCA) method and using SAP2000. For the correct comparison of each method mentioned before, the same soil type, water table, content and loads that affect the structure will be considered, obtaining this way similar forces that act on the tank from the soil, water and vehicle transit loads.
After the results were obtained, a comparative analysis of the hypothesis of the three methods, the steel reinforcement and the costs for each case was done, concluding that for shallow low capacity rectangular tanks the best design technique that should be used is the PCA method or SAP 2000; while for deep low capacity square tanks the sectioning method is the recommended one because of the lower costs that can be attained.
