Resumen
The research was carried out in different farms in the provinces of Azuay and Cañar;
the objective was to determine the effectiveness of the administration of follicle-
stimulating hormone (FSH) in a single dose applied by the epidural route, for in vivo
embryo production. Two superovulation protocols (SOV) were compared; conventional (G1), epidural route and single dose of FSH (G2). The response to the superovulation process, ovulation percentage, quantity and quality of the structures collected from each protocol were evaluated. The evaluation of the superovulatory response had the same number of follicles in each treatment (G1=17.6±1.93 vs. G2=13.9±2.29; P<0.05). Similarly, no statistical difference was evidenced between groups in the size of the follicles that responded to the SOV, G1=10.5±0.49 mm vs. G2=9.9±0.44 mm; (P>0.05). However, there was a significant increase in the response to superovulation when the number of corpora lutea (LC) was counted; G1=14.4±1.7 vs. G2=7.8±1.9; P<0.05); this same trend was obtained when evaluating the size of each LC in each group which determined an average of 14.8±1.1 mm for G1 and 11.1±1.7 mm for G2 (P<0.05). There was a significant increase (P <0.05) in the number of structures obtained for G1=8.7±1.4 compared to G2=3.4±0.9 (P<0.05); however, the percentage of embryos in the different stages of development did not differ between groups (P> 0.05). In conclusion, the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), administered for epidural route in a single dose, makes the superovulatory process measured in response to the number and size of follicles similar to the response obtained when a conventional superovulation protocol is applied.
