Background: The Saragurense population still maintains in modern times many cultural practices and knowledge that have been transmitted from generation to generation, for example, the practices to be developed during labor, especially the choice of intercultural childbirth. Objective: To analyze the factors that predispose to the choice of intercultural childbirth, in the Hospital Básico de Saraguro, 2019.Methodology:A descriptive cross-sectional study will be conducted with 96 mothers who were treated at the Saraguro Basic Hospital. The information was obtained through the application of a questionnaire. SPSS version 19 and descriptive statistics were used.Results:In the study, married women aged from 20 to 35 years predominated (71.9%), (75%), with secondary education (64.6%), living in urban areas (65.6%), mestizo (56.3%) and indigenous (39.6%) and housewives (45.8%). 27.1% chose intercultural delivery in the company of a midwife while 72.9% carried out an intercultural part, but without the assistance of a midwife, being the lithotomy, kneeling and sitting positions the most used. The health staff’s attention were good, included the midwife. They women could drink and feed during the process in most cases.Conclusions: The decision to choose intercultural childbirth has a multifactorial origin, being the most influential the recommendation of the company in the preparation stage, the relationship established with the midwife and the worldview, therefore, most women see this type of delivery as a necessity.
