Resumen
The objective of this degree work is to analyze the behavioral and social factors that influence
the separation of organic waste in homes of “Laguna del Sol” Urbanization. The research was
carried out with a mixed approach and the type of concurrent triangulation methodological
design. 152 surveys, 23 interviews, 13 structured observations were applied and a secondary
database was reviewed. These data were analyzed in a combined way by generating codes and
categories that allowed establishing similarities, complementarities and contrasts between
qualitative and quantitative data. The results show that in the separation of organic waste the
influence of behavioral and social factors is present. The discussion of these points out that the
classification of waste in homes is carried out in the preparation and consumption of food,
generally by the whole family. Seven factors that influence the participation of households in
the separation process were categorized: situational, knowledge, norms, perceived behavioral
control, social cohesion, incentives. Provoking the intention and performance of this behavior.
Risks were identified such as lack of information, problems in perceived behavioral control
and incomplete social cohesion at a micro level that reduce the intention to perform this
behavior. These risks must be considered to guarantee the continuity of this project, and similar
projects. In conclusion, behavioral and social factors cause intentions to continue separating
this waste or to consider separating it in the future.
