Resumen
This experimental work develops a methodology to find the correlation between the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) index. Through laboratory essays, the physical (Particle size, Atterberg Limits, Moisture and Density) and mechanical properties (CBR and DCP), were determined. The soil used for the tests belongs to Geological Formation “Azogues” located in Ecuador’s Austral region.
The results suggest two correlations. The first one, between CBR and the DCP test at blows to penetrate 44 mm, offered by the S-200 Cone, which was developed by Professor Sowers. The second correlation is between the DCP index that offers the Cone developed by A.J. Scala, in mm/blow and CBR. The correlation for the S-200 Cone is the first investigation about the use of this equipment in road engineering. The Scala’s Cone serves as a support for the validation of the process at being compared with other existents correlation for that equipment.
