Resumen
Background: Intrahospital Infections (IIH) are one of the main causes of complications in patients admitted to hospital admissions, their occurrence generates high costs in the health system, as well as an impact on morbidity and mortality.
General objective: to determine the prevalence and factors associated with intra-hospital infections in the Clinical Area of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in 2019.
Methodology: observational, analytical, cross-sectional study. 350 patients who met the inclusion criteria participated. Descriptive statistics were applied, for quantitative variables standard deviation and arithmetic mean were used, for qualitative frequencies and percentages; To establish correlation with risk factors and IIH, a bivariate analysis was performed, accepting the hypothesis with p <0,05.
Results: the prevalence of IIH was 25,4%. 9,4% of patients with IIH were young adults, 15,1% were men, 14,3% were from rural areas, and 13,4% were overweight. Pneumonia was the most common type of IIH with 42,7%, followed by urinary tract infection and surgical site infections with 36% and 15,7% respectively. Klebsiella Pneumoniae was the germ that was most frequently isolated in 70% of the cases. The IIH were mainly related to a longer hospital stay> 15 days (OR: 27,5; 95% CI: 11,03-68,73; p-value: 0,000), in addition to the performance of an invasive procedure (OR: 3,99; 95% CI: 2,39-6,67; p-value: 0,000).
Conclusions: the prevalence of IIH was similar to the bibliography consulted, being related to a longer hospital stay and invasive procedures.
