Osteoarthritis (OA) of hands is a degenerative joint disease prevalence and greater involvement, which is mostly expressed as occurs in aging. You need to be aware of the factors that are involved in a greater prevalence to boost prevention programs. The prevalence of OA, more affected joints, risk factors involved in people over 50 years in urban areas of Cuenca was determined. In the cross-prevalence study in 338 inhabitants over 50 years in the parishes of study a prevalence of 18.64% of OA in the hands was observed, the most affected were the distal interphalangeal joints. In conclusion, the risk factors involved with statistical significance are: BMI, female, age, occupation, menopause, becoming factors that are associated with increased occurrence of the disease
