This study was conducted in 515 patients attending obstetric labor in the service of Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca in the period May 1999-April 2000. This being descriptive of cross section. Depth research on the subject in the literature previously made. I was raised as a general objective to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics that relate to difficult births in HVCM; Cone obtaining results of 3,054 births in the period indicated, the 16.86 percent corresponded to difficult births, and of these, 35.34 percent were at risk age [under 20, over 35], the 63.88 percent had less than 1.50 cm height, 29.1 percent proceeded to rural areas and 70.9 percent in urban areas. The distribution by number of prenatal visits showed that 58.8 percent fewer than five controls were carried out, which also indicates a risk factor. Depending on the type of dystocia 43.69 percent corresponded to the mother, the fetal 40.19 percent, and 10.49 to DCP. fetal dystocia the 58.85 percent corresponded to abnormal presentations; with a fetal mortality rate of 2.71
