Resumen
Small and medium-enterprises (SMEs) are considered very dynamic entities on the business
environment. Currently, they have great potential for social growth and the ability for wealth
generation. However, one limitation to their growth is the lack of systems that allow them to
integrate all their information and activities. One possible solution is the implementation of an
Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) that allows companies to increase their level of
efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. Yet these implementations require a high investment
cost, and they expose certain problems in their implementation. For example the difficulty to fully
adapt to the administrative and accounting procedures in each organization, and the lack of use of
these systems by the final users. Based on what has stated this study is focused on the construction
of two models for a successful implementation of ERP systems into SMEs. A numerous critical
success factors have been used to focus on two points of view: the judgement of experts on the
subject and the empirical evidence in organizations. For the development of these models, the
structural interpretative modelling methodology has been used with the respective validation
trough a focus group of professionals related to the implementation and uses of ERP systems. The
results has showed that the models are admissible for a successful implementation in SMEs of
commercialization, production, or services activities.
