Introduction: The self-esteem is related with the good performance social, family and labor of individuals; however, the factors that affect the self-esteem have not yet been established with certainty, so that studies have been carried out self-esteem with different results for age group.
Objectives: To determine the relationship of the self-esteem of adolescents from the Jadan parish with the context of family, school and social, Gualaceo 2015.
Materials and Methods: a quantitative study, an observational, analytical-transversal in 260 adolescents of the parish Jadan, Gualaceo - Azuay, 2015. The quantitative variables are presented as mean and standard deviation, was applied the chi square test was used to establish associations. The results of the tests estaditicas were considered significant when p<0.05.
Results: The frequency of high self-esteem was 32.7%, 54.2% average self-esteem and self-esteem low 13.1%. No association was found between the level of self-esteem and smoking, risk of suicidality, level of aggression and family functionality. In the multivariate analysis, it was determined that the variables that have more influence over the self-esteem were the risk of suicidality and family dysfunction.
Conclusions: In the present study, it was concluded that the average self-esteem had a higher frequency compared with the high and low self-esteem in adolescents in Jadan. There is an association between family dysfunction and the risk of suicidality with low self-esteem
