Background: Carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae infections are big magnitude public health problem due to its difficult control, treatment, and high mortality. Since 2010, after Ecuador’s first report, has been an alarming rise of cases reported in hospitals of several provinces.
General objective: To determine Carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae infections frequency and mortality rate at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital.
Method: Retrospective, descriptive observational study.
Results: A total of 39 patients were included, mortality was higher in patients older than 65 years patients (48,7%) and those whose were interned for a period between 31 to 90 days (56,4%). The mortality rate was 54 per 100 patients diagnosed. The most used antibiotic schemes by Infectious Disease department were colistin + associates (22.2%), colistin + tigecycline (18.5%) and colistin (14.8%).
