Objective: Relate sleep and eating habits to academic performance of adolescents Intercultural Bilingual Pedagogical Institute "Quilloac"
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional research was conducted. We worked with a finite universe of 581 adolescents, with a sampling frame for selection involving 212 students aged between 11 and 19 years. As a technical survey habits and customs of teens used and how these influence academic performance; Test as an instrument of sleep was handled according to the Epworth scale comprising the following parameters: 7-9 does not suffer from insomnia, mild insomnia 9-14 14-21 moderate insomnia 21-28 severe insomnia. The data were processed through SPSS version 20.0 which are in double tables analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Of the 212 teens surveyed sleep disorders and bad eating habits related to academic performance were identified, 81% of adolescents eat breakfast before going to school who have a good academic performance and 19% skip breakfast and academic performance is between good and regular; 73% have mild insomnia and includes the ages of 16 and 17 years; 61% consume junk food, 19% had problems in their nutritional status, being overweight the main problem with 11.3% and academic performance among regular and insufficient.
Conclusion: There is a high rate of adolescents with sleep disorders, high consumption of junk food affects their nutritional status and academic performance.
