Resumen
In this research, the main parameters of the universal ram pump were evaluated to
improve its performance. It was determined that its efficiency is directly influenced by
parameters such as: Slope of the feed pipe, height of the feed pipe, force of the impulse
valve, length and height of the discharge pipe, volume of the air chamber, diameters of
the pump in relation to the supply and discharge pipes, diameter of the impulse valve and
stroke length of the impulse valve. For this reason, the present work was carried out with
the objective of evaluating these parameters in order to find their maximum efficiency.
The study was carried out at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of
Cuenca, a one-inch ram pump was designed and built entirely of iron material, which
presented better results in terms of durability and viability. Besides we calculated the
parameters that provided the highest efficiency, the mean of those, were compared
through the t student test, and also analyzed with the use of bar graphs and scatter plots.
Our results show that the optimum force or weight in the impulse valve is 110 g, with an
opening of 22 mm, while the optimal volume of the air chamber was 3 L and the slope of
the feed pipe was 26°.
