dc.description.abstractBackground: Breast carcinomas represent a heterogeneous group of tumors due to their clinical and radiological behavior. The association of spiculated margins on mammography and the molecular subtype of breast cancer has not been extensively studied. Objective: to determine the association between the spiculated mass on mammography and Luminal A (LA) subtype breast cancer. Methods: cross-sectional analytical study. 263 clinical records that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. A data collection form was applied with the study variables. The spiculated image of the mammography (independent variable) and the subtype of breast cancer LA (dependent variable) were related. The analysis was performed using descriptive, bivariate (chi square) and multivariate (logistic regression) statistics. The information was presented in personalized tables. Results: 73% of women with breast cancer were located in age groups between 40 and 64 years, 90.87% were primiparous or multiparous, 11.4% had a family history of breast carcinoma and 29.28% had mammographic reports of spiculated nodules. The Luminal B (LB) subtype was the most frequent with 33.46%, followed by Luminal A (LA) with 24.33%. Age >50 years, nulliparity and spiculated nodules were the risk factors with statistical association that were related to the luminal A subtype, both in the bivariate and multivariate analysis. History of breast cancer did not show a statistical relationship with LA. Conclusions: there was a statistical association in the visualization of spiculated nodules and luminal A breast cancer, it is also related to age groups >50 years and nulliparous.
