Background: Among the practices associated with the active management of the third stage of labor , oxytocin is via umbilical cord during active management of labor , it is suspected that reduces the time and amount of bleeding. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of oxytocin via the umbilical cord in reducing the duration and amount of bleeding of childbirth in women receiving active management of the third stage of labor. Method and Techniques: a randomized double-blind clinical study was conducted at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in Cuenca, two groups were studied, the first (64 patients) was administered oxytocin via the umbilical cord more active management of the third stage, the second group (66 patients) majeo the third stage of labor was performed. Results: The group with oxytocin via the umbilical cord got a clear benefit with a lower average duration of delivery 102.25 seconds (SD 62.3) compared with the group without oxytocin via the umbilical cord 171.79 seconds (SD 90.2). The mean difference with student t-test is 69.53 seconds (13.64) p-value = 0.000. = 0.41. There was a benefit with oxytocin via the umbilical cord , with less amount of bleeding of childbirth in the intervention group 171.09 ml (SD 133.7 ) and control group 235.15 (173.34) . The mean difference with student t-test is 64.05 ml (SD 27.21) p-value =0.000. r= 0.41 Descriptors: DURATION OF CHILDBIRTH, BLEEDING ENLIGHTENMENT, ACTIVE MANAGEMENT OF THIRD STAGE, OXYTOCIN.
