Resumen
The Guayaquilean writer Jorge Velasco Mackenzie characterized his narrative by recreating the marginality hidden in some urban spaces of Guayaquil like neighbourhoods, streets and plazas. In his novel El Rincón de los justos (1983), the marginality as a thematic is even more evident, because the story narrates the life of the Matavilela, a famous neighbourhood of the city. From the above, the fiction of the canteen is constructed as an inhabited space by beings like inebriates, prostitutes, beggars, workers, artists, among others. In other words, the canteen constitutes a space of diversity.
If we think that one of the purposes of literature is the creation of alterities, precisely Velasco Mackenzie recreates the imaginary of the canteen to make visible these lumpen spaces, where heterogeneity dwells. In this abode roles and hierarchies are confused, because of enjoyment, festivity and carnival. This proposal based on bibliographic research, from according to the reading of literary, critical and theoretical texts.
