Resumen
The aim of this study was to analyze the degree of apical external root resorption (RREA) in the incisors of patients with different mandibular reposition appliances: Herbst and AdvanSync®. The sample consisted of 28 patients, included the patients between 11 and 17 years, who were randomly divided in 2 groups aged between 11 and 18 years, who were randomly divided into 2 groups: Herbst group (n = 13, 12 men, 1 woman) and AdvanSync® group (n = 15, 10 men, 5 women ). The analysis was over 224 dental pieces (upper and lower incisors) by using cone beam computed tomography. The data obtained were subjected to two statistical tests, a qui-square was used to determine the association between the device and apical external root resorption. Likewise t Student and U Mann-Whitney U tests were used to determinate whether or not there was a statistical significant difference between these two devices, regarding the amount of root resorption.
The results indicate a tendency of a smaller amount of resorption for the AdvanSync® group without a statistical significant difference between these appliances. It is concluded that there was no a significant correlation between root resorption and type of mandibular reposition appliances.
