dc.description.abstractThe following investigation titled “A vision of addictions from Social Work”, presents a theoretical approach of this social problem that affects young people and adults alike in our society, based on an analytic/descriptive investigation method. This investigation has three big themes: Addictions, Alcohol and Drug Addictions, and the Social Work intervention in the mental health field. The Chapter: Addictions, presents a short hystorical review and conceptualization and characteristics of the more common types of addictions, and the prevalences of usage on people that are part of a residential treatment center for people with drug and alcohol problems. The Chapter: Alcohol an Drug Addictions, reviews different alcoholism, and drug addiction definitions, and also the causes and consequences that affect the persons’s mental health and their family’s. The Chapter: Social Work intervention in the mental health field, shows a broad perspective mainly about the roles and functions that the Social Worker fulfills on the mental health field, and also de instruments and techniques used for familiar diagnosis, base don the application of diverse intervention models of Social Work.
