The present research sought to describe the parental practices used by parents or representatives of schoolchildren in the rural area of Cumbe Parish in Cuenca. The participants were 114 parents and / or representatives of the fifth, sixth and seventh children of Basic General Education (EGB) of the Carlos Teran Zenteno Educational Unit. The study was conducted with a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design and with a descriptive scope. To carry out the execution of the study, an instrument called Parenting Practices Questionnarie was used, which included questions to obtain sociodemographic data. After the respective analysis based on the information collected, the results show that the predominant style is democratic, indicating also that the other two styles (authoritarian and permissive) are used to a lesser extent. With respect to parental practices according to family typology, in the nuclear family they proved to be more democratic than extended families; and in the permissive style, both nuclear and extended families use a similar percentage. Finally, no significant relationship was found between age of the participants, level of instruction and parental practices.
