Resumen
Longevity does not necessarily mean a healthy old age. The development of health
sciences has made it possible to extend life expectancy, despite suffering from a permanent
disease, thanks to the use of medicines and care. The world's population is living longer, facing
greater chances of developing long-lasting chronic diseases and physical and mobility
limitations, which in turn lead to a greater demand and need for care. Provision of care, as it is
currently structured, is facing a crisis and requires urgent attention. If the required care is not
provided, the consequences will significantly affect the quality of life of older persons. In this
context, the present research paper seeks to measure the level of influence of the social
organization of care in the perception of the quality of life of a group of older persons, in early
old age, in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, in the year 2020. The results have shown how the State,
private providers and the family acting as care providers, have a positive influence in the
perception of the quality of life of the elderly. However, the community appears to have a
negative impact. Understanding the type of care and the quality of care provided by each
provider is vital to rethinking and rebuilding a care regimen that is more equitable among its
parts and achieves better levels of well-being for older adults within society
