dc.description.abstractIntroduction: the premature newborn hospitalized in neonatology, due to their own conditions, has a high probability of suffering complications during their hospital stay, which leads to high rates of morbidity and mortality in this group of neonates, this fact has a great impact on the psycho-emotional state of the mother. Objective: To determine depression and anxiety in mothers of premature infants in the neonatal unit, Hospital Vicente Corral Mascots, Cuenca 2018. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive quantitative study, conducted in the area of neonatology of the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, by means of convenience sampling, we worked with a universe of 39 mothers of premature neonates, who after completing the inclusion criteria filled out the anxiety questionnaires and Hamilton's depression, the information obtained was processed and analyzed in the statistical package SPSS version 24, complying with bioethics standards; The results obtained were presented in frequency and percentage tables. Results: the sample was characterized by mothers with ages between 20 to 30 years (56.5%), residents in the urban sector (56.4%), civil union de facto (43.6%), less than 3 children (66.7%), household chores (66.6%); the frequency of the depression was of 61.6% and of the anxiety of 77%, in addition it was possible to determine both entities were more frequent in the marital status de facto and married, in those who had less than 3 children and in ages between 20 to 30 years. Conclusions: the frequency of depression and anxiety in mothers of premature infants admitted to the neonatal area were greater than 60%, Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2018.
