Resumen
The main aim of the following investigation was to determine the prevalence of Brucella abortus among the slaughterhouse workers in Riobamba Municipality, through the Rose Bengal, 2-mercaptoethanol and ELISA methods. A total of 71 people had their blood drawn in an experimental trial conducted in a small percentage of an overall population. Socialization was put into effect in order to know important aspects of the Brucellosis disease. In addition, a survey was carried out to understand the risk factors to which this population is exposed and consequently, to be considered a vulnerable group. The tests were undertaken in the clinical laboratory at the – ESPOCH faculty of sciences and for this research was used the blood serum. In the Rose Bengal clinical outcomes was noted a zero degree of agglutination in the 100% of the population. Therefore, we have come to the conclusion that the test results have shown negative effects on the antigen-antibody reaction; all of this was taken into account to detect the presence of IgM antibodies and it was also performed the 2-mercaptoethanol method resulting in 99 % negative, 1 % positive and as a definitive test the ELISA method was applied, in which 96% was negative in IgG and 4% positive, in the case of IgM 99% negative and 1% positive. According to the survey results, 55% are aware of Brucellosis, 43% are not familiar with this disease and 2% refrains from giving an answer. All the staff are subjected to significant risk practices and most of them have been a great deal of time performing the same function, as to the protective clothing, they frequently wear the proper outfit to guarantee the bio-safety conditions. Most of the symptoms and signs of disease shown by the personnel is lower-risk. This indicates that the 62% of the working staff have gone through medical check-ups once a year. It is highly recommended to those people who work with animal fluids and internal tissues to always keep in mind the adequate bio-security measures as means of care and protection.
