Resumen
The objective of the present research was to evaluate the in vitro anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of Roupala ferruginea Kunth; for which a standardized methodology was achieved. The study of total phenols was carried out using the Folin- Ciocalteu colorimetric method, previously preparing a calibration curve with standard solutions of gallic acid at different concentrations ( 20,40,60,80 and 100ppm). The content of phenols was 856. 71 ±13.38mg GAE/g of plant (Gallic acid standard), which is a considertable value that could be related to the anti-inflamatory activity. The total flavonoids of the lyophilized extract represent 18.77%±0.12; being an apreciable quantity of flavonoids present in the plant. The extracts presented free radical scavenging capacity with an IC50 of 190.33 μg/mL. Once the lyophilized hydroalcoholic extract was obtained, the reduction of the tetrazolium salt (WST-1) to formazan was analyzed by spectrophotometry to demonstrate the anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities. The cytotoxic activity allowed to know the cell viability of the extract different concentrations, presenting values of 52.24% at the minimum concentration (12.5 ppm) and 84.96% at the maximum concentration (200 ppm). However, in comparison with acetylsalicylic acid it has lower cell viability (greater cytotoxicity), since the cell viability of acetylsalicylic acid ranges from 40.93-99.45%. It is recommended to future thesis students to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Roupala ferruginea by different methods than the capture of DPPH, since it presents a high content of flavonoids and phenols.
