Resumen
The present investigation proposes: to determine the form factor of the species Eucalyptus saligna (Eucalyptus) in a commercial forest plantation of the sector Tambillo bajo, canton Colta, province of Chimborazo; for which 100 individuals with straight shaft and without bifurcations are taken as sample, to each individual the commercial and total height, diameter at breast height and diameters along the stem were measured, to determine the real volume of the wood using the formula of Smalian Newton, the graphical method and with a form factor of 0.70, based on the measured data, a comparative analysis of the calculation of real volume is performed by the method used, the results obtained showed significant differences between calculation methods used. The results show that the form factor by the Smalian and Newton methods are within an acceptable range. While the form factor found by the graphical method is outside the allowed range. In addition, 5 potential volume equations were selected, which had a higher coefficient of completion adjusted to a lower mean square error. For the verification of the commercial volume calculated with the estimated form factors against the volume equations, the commercial volume is recalculated based on the form factors and equations found. The calculation of commercial volume is taken as the exact value by the formula of Smalian and as approximation value the other methods, to find the relative error which shows that the calculations of the commercial volume with the calculation methods with a form factor of 0.70 and the graphical method are the most inefficient and overestimate in large percentage the commercial volume while in the other methods the relative error is not very high.
