dc.description.abstractThe aim of the research was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of a gel made from the hydroalcoholic extract of aerial parts of Ageratum conyzoides in experimental animals, using carragenan-induced paw edema experimental model, for which the plant material was collected, identified, selected, dried and crushed, for the determination of the quality parameters of the crude drug. Subsequently, the ethereal, ethanolic, aqueous and hydroalcoholic extracts were obtained by maceration to carry out the phytochemical screening, in order to identify secondary metabolites present in the plant species. The hydroalcoholic extract was concentrated and lyophilized, after that, by means of UVVisible spectrophotometry, flavonic and phenolic compounds present in it were quantitatively analyzed. Gels were made with the hydroalcoholic extract at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20% with good organoleptic characteristics. In addition, the antiinflammatory effect of the gels was evaluated in experimental animals in which inflammation was induced by administering 0.1% carrageenan in the plantar area. The area of inflammation was measured in millimeters. The values obtained were essential to find the percentage of inflammation at different measurement times. Statistical analysis of variance and Tukey's test were then applied to determine the significant difference among the applied treatments. It was obtained as a result that the gel based on hydroalcoholic extract of Ageratum conyzoides at 20% showed greater anti-inflammatory efficacy, statistically similar to diclofenac sodium 1%. It was concluded that the gels made with the extract of Ageratum conyzoides have a high anti-inflammatory efficacy due to the presence of flavonoids and phenols, so it is recommended to carry out in vitro and in vivo studies in order to establish its safety and other possible applications.
