Resumen
The objective of this research was to estabish a study of CO and CO2 concentration in the interior of 10 all-terrain vehicles (Kia Sportage Active) and 10 sedan-type vehicles (Kia Cerato Forte) using two measuring instruments of IAQ Testo 440 with probes for CO and CO2 generating values of these contaminants based on the measurement time to evaluate their behavior. The measurements were made with two types of cabin filters (used/new), three different modes of use of the air-conditioning system, the vehicle parked, and the engine idling. For data collection, the test methods proposed in the Russian interstate standard of VIAQ GOST 33554 – 2015 were adopted, and certain meteorological parameters detailed in the regulations were adjusted to the environmental conditions of the city of Quito. With the results obtained, the behavior of the concentrations of CO and CO2 was determinated, wich depends on the operating mode in wich the air conditioning and A/C system are found, in addition, each of the vehicles studied was charcaterized, wich established that the level of CO depends on the proper functioning of the vehicle's air conditioning system. Consequently, it was concluded that with an adequate operation of the air conditioning of the vehicles, the level of concentrations of carbon monoxide and dioxide can be significantly reduced. In addition to usin cabin filters in good condition, a significant reduction in the concentrations of these pollutants is achieved. For this, it is recommended to carry ot the maintenance corresponding to these systems and components for their proper functioning and therefore the reduction of pollutants in the vehicle interior.
