dc.description.abstractThe current research is aimed to develop a credit management model for “Nueva Esperanza Ltda.” Credit Union in Riobamba canton, Chimborazo province, for the credit granting, decrease in the past-due portfolio and increase the cash flow levels. All of these based on the general diagnostic on the performance of the Cooperative, taking into account the importance of having a policy and procedures manuals which provide adequate information for the decision making of the staff members in order to identify, control and mitigate the risks of the credit portfolio. The analytical-synthetic, inductive and deductive methodology as well as the application of field tools in the administrative staff area and partners facilitated the establishment of the analysis and data interpretation in order to determine the efficiency, effectiveness and economy in the credits granting and the entity's recovery portfolio, and based on the findings identified, develop and propose a management model that optimizes time and resources as well as generate partners’ agility and confidence. The information was collected through the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) matrix, the credit manual and the organizational and functional structure of the institution, which allowed the application of efficiency and effectiveness management indicators, as well as to determine the recommendations in order to improve the current credits granting processes. It is recommended to the manager to apply the developed management model in order to improve the procedures of the entity, and then train to the credit section staff members in an organized and systematic way with the purpose of acquiring and developing knowledge and specific skills related to the work by using a qualified technician with the necessary knowledge to establish standards and policies to improve the management of the cooperative.
