Resumen
In this project, it was worked on the redesign of the existing wastewater treatment system in the “América” leather finishing artisan workshop. The first step was the recognition of the plant, so a first visit was made to know the facilities, the owners and information about the workshop was received. In a second visit, the flow was measured and samples were taken, which were taken in 25-liter buckets and then transferred to cans of the same capacity. The initial characterization of the leather and tanned wastewater was carried out in the Water Quality Laboratory of Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo based on Standardized Methods. (APHA, AWWA, WPCF 17 ed.) And Ministerial Agreement 097-A, Book VI, Table 9. It was determined that for pellet water the parameters that demonstrate a hazard are those of BOD5, COD and sulfides, while for the tanning water was BOD5, COD and sulfates. This shows us that the water is not capable of degrading these components, therefore it requires treatment. The treatability tests were carried out at the laboratory level, with the determination of the flocculant and coagulant indicated, the jar test was carried out and then a filtration of both effluents was carried out. Once the treatability tests were carried out, almost all the parameters complied with the current legislation, while the parameters mentioned in the previous paragraph showed an efficient removal percentage, equivalent to an efficiency of 95.52% based on BOD5 and 86, 38% based on COD. It is recommended to apply the redesign of this plant that will mean the reduction of pollution to the environment and an improvement in the quality of life of the inhabitants of the sector.
