Resumen
In this project a biological treatment system was designed for the purification of leachates from San Jerónimo de Porlón Community Sanitary Landfill in the city of Riobamba, which focused on the use of a UASB system, the process began with the characterization of the leachate and flow monitoring, with the data obtained; the pilot reactor was designed, with which treatability tests were carried out that subsequently helped to obtain the data that were used for the design of a real-scale plant that supplies the needs of the landfill, the results obtained in the treatability tests were significant, since obtained a BOD reduction of 82%, of COD of 75%, and of ammoniacal nitrogen of 85.61%; besides these parameters, three control parameters were used: pH, alkalinity and chlorides, which served to verify the correct operation of the reactor; another of the values evaluated was the hydraulic resilience time that, due to the organic load present in the leachate, was set at 0.7 days. Once the correct data were obtained, the final reactor was designed and incorporated into a complementary treatment system to achieve efficient degradation and can be discharged into a water source.
