Resumen
In the present work of degree were used Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC) as biosensors with the objective to determine the relationship between the concentration of the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and the bioelectricity production of leachates from the sanitary landfill of Canton Ambato. This is implemented 4 MFC simple camera with the cathode partially exposed to the air, in which two of them were inoculated with moorland ground of the community of Pichán and the two remaining with sludge from textile FASHION COLOR located in the Canton Pelileo. Once implemented the MFC, the monitoring of bioelectricity general for the m.o., using as substrate the BOD present in different liquids provided (synthetic waste water, of textile and leachate) to one and the same concentration and for a period of 17, 32 and 20 days respectively. Finally, the MFC daily supply the leachate is diluted by a period of 6 days, modifying the concentration of the same every 48 hours, starting from a concentration of 200ppm, to finish with a concentration of 300ppm. As the results of the first stage of experimentation, it was observed that the MFC acted as biosensor by introducing synthetic sewage and of the same textile, obtaining bioelectricity production at each feeding. However, for the cells fed with leachates, the response time was short but with a generation of bioelectricity variable. Whereas in the second phase, the MFC inoculated with the soil of the moorland ground, showed a short response time and stable; however, the MFC with sewage sludge presented greater stability, showing its potential as a biosensor due to the relationship that exists between the generation of bioelectricity and the BOD. It is important to realize new monitors for concentrations of pures effluent.
