Resumen
The objective of this research was to carry out an analysis on the use of Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) as a preventive and curative method against COVID-19, in a population sample from Puyo. The research began with the application of surveys previously validated, then it was socialized with the people who voluntarily decided to contribute their answers. The responses attributed by the participants were subjected to a statistical analysis using the chi square test, which managed to determine the form of use, the age range and the combined use of Eucalyptus globulus with other plant species. The results showed that the population sample used Eucalyptus globulus and other medicinal plants to prevent the symptoms of COVID-19 as a complement to modern medicine, as they are effective; having a frequency of use of less than a week, as a reference two to three times, reducing symptoms similar to bronchiolitis and rhinopharyngitis when combined with expectorant, fever-reducing and antitussive plants. It was concluded that Eucalyptus globulus was used in the form of sprays. During the first three months of the health emergency, the age range that they mostly used was people under 30 years old. In addition, there is an important preference in the combination of plant species mainly with: cascarilla (Cinchona pubescens) and chuchuhuasi (Maytenus krukovii). This research suggests that there are more studies on the biological effects of medicinal plants used in combination, in order to avoid interactions between their phytochemical compounds or with drugs, and as it is evident that the use of Eucalyptus globulus is highly effective against bacterial strains. It is recommended that this natural resource be an alternative for the creation of new homeopathic or conventional drugs.
